In Syria

Since the start of Syrian Civil War in 2011 Iran is supporting Syrian government against its opponents, including ISIL.[1]
In Iraq

Iran was the first country[2] to pledge assistance to Iraq to fight ISIL, deploying troops in early June 2014 following North Iraq offensive.[3][4]
President of Iraq Fuad Masum has praised Iran as "the first country to provide weapons to Iraq to fight against the ISIL Takfiri terrorists".[5]
Iran's Quds Force is a "key player" in Military intervention against the ISIL[6] and its "mastermind" commander Major General Qassem Soleimani maintains a frequent presence in Iraq while his pictures in the battlefield are regularly published.[7][8]

Das wird natürlich gegenseitig nicht akzeptiert."If Tagavi and his colleagues do not give blood in Samara, we will have to give our blood in Sistan, Azarbaijan, Shiraz and Esfahan," he said, according to state news services IRNA and ISNA, in reference to Sunni extremists possibly attacking largely Shiite Muslim Iran.

Rouhani: If not for Iran, IS would rule Baghdad and DamascusPresident says world would be facing terror government, not just terror group
“If Iran hadn’t help, ISIL would have been materialized practically and today, we would be facing an ISIL terrorist government instead of a terrorist group,” he said, according to the semi-official Fars news agency which used another acronym for the Islamic State.
Iran came to the aid of Iraq and Syria to stop the rapid advances of the group, in the summer on 2014, and had it done so, Baghdad and Damascus would today be in the hands of the terror group, Rouhani said, according to Iranian media.
Iran has been a staunch ally of Assad and has sent its own forces to fight alongside his military in the war-torn country.
The Islamic State seized large swathes of land in both Syria and Iraq in a military blitz in June 2014, killing thousands and taking hundreds of women and children from minority communities as prisoners.
Iran is said to have carried out a series of air strikes, at the request of Iraq, following the fall of Mosul to the terror group and sent ground troops to help stop its advance.

Iran Was First to Supply Iraq's Kurds With Weapons to Battle the Islamic State
Iran supplied Iraq's Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) with weapons to help battle extremist militants led by the Islamic State, president Massoud Barzani said today at a joint press conference with Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran was the first state to help us... and it provided us with weapons and equipment," Barzani disclosed, according to AFP.
However, a number of sources in Iraq told VICE News that there was an Iranian military presence in a number of different parts of the country, from bases near the Islamic State-held city of Tikrit, to Kurdish Erbil and Jalawla and Samarra, north of Baghdad. Most said the Iranians were serving in advisory roles.
Siehe Iran-Contra.In yet another example of the Islamic State's ability to create some unexpected bedfellows, the US also began shipping weapons to the region, and launched a series of airstrikes on militant targets from August 8.

Iran’s Soleimani leads US-backed attack on Fallujah
Even though Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced that 35,000 Iraqi troops launched an attack to liberate Fallujah from ISIS, DEBKAfile’s military and intelligence sources report that most of these forces are not participating in the assault.
It is spearheaded by the Popular Mobilization Army and the Badr Organization, and they are under the direct command of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani, head of Iranian forces in Iraq and Syria, who is operating from a field command center.
The US air force is helping Soleimani’s attempt to capture Fallujah.
Man wäre ja auch schon blöd...?Instead of liberating Mosul, Washington now prefers to place it under siege and gradually cause the collapse of ISIS rule.
The American decision to support Soleimani’s operation shows the central role played by Iran for the past few weeks in the wars carried out by the US and Russia in the Middle East.
Genausowenig, wie es etwas zu bedeuten hat, daß die USA und der Iran gemeinsam militärisch koordiniert schiessen...DEBKAfile’s military sources report that the Iranian general came to Fallujah from northern Syria, near the city of Aleppo, where he commanded the Iranian, Syrian and Hizballah armies. At this stage, it can be concluded that he has failed against the Syrian rebels on the Aleppo front.
Following that failure of that campaign, which was backed by Russian air power, Soleimani has relocated to the Fallujah front where his troops are operating under the protective umbrella of the US air force.

The Russia–Syria–Iran–Iraq coalition (RSII coalition), or the so-called 4+1 (in which the "plus one" refers to Hezbollah of Lebanon),[1] is a joint intelligence-sharing cooperation between opponents of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)[2] with operation rooms in Syria's Damascus and Iraq's Green Zone in Baghdad.[3][4] It was formed as a consequence of an agreement reached at the end of September 2015 between Russia, Iran, Iraq and Syria to "help and cooperate in collecting information about the terrorist Daesh group" (ISIL) with a view to combatting the advances of the group, according to the statement issued by the Iraqi Joint Operations Command.[5][6][7] The statement also cited "the increasing concern from Russia about thousands of Russian terrorists committing criminal acts within ISIS."[5]
In October 2015, it was suggested that the Russia–Syria–Iran–Iraq coalition may have been devised during the visit by Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Iranian Quds Force, to Moscow in July 2015
